New Windows Live Hotmail Wave3 Screenshots

Today as I signed into one of my Hotmail accounts, I was presented with the following screen saying ‘Your inbox has a slightly new look’

1

So I was excited to see my Hotmail account updated about which we have been hearing  since some time. The updated Hotmail is indeed faster, has cleaner and simple looks, new themes in line with other Wave 3 Live products, like the new Windows Live Messenger beta. Updated version has better Contacts control. And more improvements will be coming in the days to come. Such as * Hotmail storage to grow with ones account at reasonable pace, Inbox capacity will automatically increase as you need more space. *IM through Hotmail. *New Calendar features.

Let us check some of the screenshots of new Windows Live Hotmail:

You will have choice of Themes replacing the earlier color schemes making it uniform with other Wave3 Beta Live products.Remember thought that this new updated Windows Live Hotmail is not in Beta. From the Options as you move your Mouse cursor over various themes , the change gets reflected in the interface.

There’s only one version unlike earlier where we had ‘Classic’ and ‘Full’, thus its simple and everyone gets access to all the features of Hotmail.

Also you have Manage Folders:

And Contact List is conveniently lists Alphabetically with Display Picture of the contact and Alphabet index on top.

While writing a new message, type the first few letters of a friend’s name or an e-mail address who you want to send an e-mail to, Hotmail fills in the rest.

The new Windows Live Hotmail is integrated with the Windows Live Calendar Beta which makes it very useful

‘More’ Option on the Main bar shows

Now the mails are scanned with Windows Live OneCare.

So overall its nice, simple and fast and its still improving. And the update rollout is being carried out gradually and one will see it updated across all accounts soon.

I liked Classic Hotmail.  I still do, although over time some of the features were taken away.  I will always prefer Classic Hotmail to Windows Live Hotmail.  There is only one feature of this reworked Hotmail that I like.  Mostly, though, I don\’t.  The one feather that I do like is when I put a check in the little box in front of the sender\’s name, it highlights the entire line.  I don\’t particularly care for any of the weird colors.  Plain colors are okay and a little more color in the messages list would be okay.  It would be nice to make the sender clickable or the subject clickable, but not both as it is now.  Actually, I don\’t even have to click on the subject in order to open a message.  I have accidently opened so many messages that I did not intend to open.  It\’s not funny.  Before making radical changes, like this, it would be nice if the design team would ask members.

Why does every "improvement" to Hotmail make it worse? Having a corporate shill write an enthusiastic blog about this latest round of changes doesn\’t change the fact that Hotmail has steadily become more user-unfriendly over the years. Is it strategic? If so, please just say it: "we\’re not making enough money with Hotmail. Our plan is to make it crappy so all of you free-loading free users will just go away."One might think that the largest software company in the world would invest a little more effort into making products that work. Please listen to your customers; stop turning Hotmail into junk.

  3. M says:

I\’ve been in tech support for over 20 years and old enough to be a grandmother – however, I\’m not cranky – just annoyed at the so-called enhancements to Hotmail.

Removal of functionality is not an improvement.  The Check Mail button is gone.  Since I\’m on the internet a lot, I keep Hotmail open & often go back & click on Check Mail to see if I have new mail.  Instead, I now have to right click & select Refresh – extra clicks required = reduced functionality.

The New Folder feature has gone missing – bad move.  Instead of being able to create a new folder from the "Move To" dropdown list, you have to scroll down to the bottom of your folder list & click on Manage Folders.  Then click on New to create the folder.  Again – this means extra steps required to perform a simple task = reduced functionality.

Technical enhancements are supposed to be IMPROVEMENTS – not make simple tasks more complex.

Personally, I don\’t care how many colors or themes are available.  I also don\’t need to add pictures next to the email addresses.  I don\’t use the Hotmail Calendar because I have a PDA that I synchronize with my calendar program on my pc.

Bottom line – I\’m going to check out other mail systems.

Ugghhhh . . . . new hotmail sucks, for all the reasons that other posters have already enumerated. I am in the process of switching to gmail — a big undertaking after 10 years with hotmail — because Hotmail refuses to play nice with my browser (google chrome – never freezes, never crashes, loads pages nice and fast). What a shame that so many of us are going to have to spend so much time leaving our old hotmail homes. Didn\’t it occur to anybody at Microsoft that instead of being bullied into abandoning our non-MS browsers, a bunch of us would decide to up and leave hotmail if they made it compatible only with MS products?MS has lost the plot completely.

  5. Raine says:

All I want to say is that I"m glad you guys fixed the attachment problem that I was receiving when looking at old photos that I emailed myself from my phone cam..  At least I know you guys do care about your customers. I\’ve been on hotmail for over 10 years, I really didn\’t want to look elsewhere…

  6. Unknown says:

    I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    changing to gmail

  7. Christy says:

I hate it.  Period!  you suck hotmail.

  8. Janette says:

I agree with most of the other comments made (other than the one which called us cranky old lady types or something similar to that–that I\’m not).  I can live with most of the annoying new changes, but when your list of folders and/or contacts runs off the screen (with no way of getting to them by scolling down), there\’s a problem.  That should be addressed ASAP.  I haven\’t considered gmail or another account yet as I\’ve always been very happy with hotmail.  However, if it stays this way, I may have to consider it.

Lastly, I did send a question using the feedback feature, but never got any kind of response.  I even tried using the help feature, no response to that either.  ????

  9. Andrew says:

Hotmail sucks.  They should try to debug their changes before they make them.  Evertime I click on a message it crashes.  who needs new changes every few months???

  10. Unknown says:

The new hotmail is a horrible disaster for it does not work as it is "advertised" to work.  There are NO manage folders; emails canNOT be viewed in their entirety, even the short ones; the screen is so small that a message canNOT be added to a forwarded email; the screens "advertised" as choices for personalizing email do NOT exist; etc.  The creators of the "new hotmail" must have been high on something when they created this disaster but it was not high on intelligence!

  11. Catherine says:

I hate it as well. I couldn\’t care less about changing colors and the other flash. I was quite happy with my classic hotmail (for 5 years) until they started making all these changes last year. Now I can\’t even print a complete message (or it does a wierd wrap and comes out in print too teeny to read.) When I needed to print out a message last week, I reopened a Yahoo account & e-mailed it to that account. If it weren\’t such trouble to notify all my contacts, I would just change over to yahoo.

  12. Myriam says:

I agree with everyone – this is the worst hotmail upgrade ever. I\’ve had hotmail for 15 years now. I have always loved it until the upgrade before this last one. For a Microsoft product, this is a disgrace. The features don\’t work, they are not user-friendly. The delete button on the bottom was removed in the upgrade before this last one. And these are all forced upgrades. Nice of Microsoft. Way to piss off your customers and in doing so you\’re not only pissing off Hotmail customers but turning off customers to MS products. Good strategy in this economy.

Like someone else I\’ve submitted questions, feedback to the help page and never ever ever ever ever heard back. So why not just remove the help area since no one answers. Surely someone at Microsoft can answer.

Are you planning on shutting down Hotmail eventually  – is that why you did such an incredibly awful upgrade – or downgrade? Most of the comments posted here are completely negative. Oh except for the PR person – Vasudev living in another reality. And chiming in every once in a while some irrelevent and unhelpful posts. Why isn\’t MS reading these and responding? Really in this economy  – this is not a good move.

Another pissed off Hotmail customer ready to switch.

Oh and BTW is there a way to have Hotmail messages forwarded to another email account  – like Yahoo or Gmail – to eventually close a Hotmail account?

    Thanks.

  13. Myriam says:

oh and it\’s not 6:32am here – it\’s evening. Another Hotmail. I checked clock on my laptop and it says the correct time. Why can\’t hotmail track that? Argh!! Unbelieveable!

  14. tim says:

new hotmail sucks, cannot use a drop down to my mail contact, now you gotta type the first letter and with 2 contacts start with the same letter you get the wrong one, everything is for wide screen monitor, that 2 sucks

  15. PDQU says:

Remember folks…. High dollar "Professionals" sat around a table took a final look at this product and said:
" Yeah! This is great… people will love it… Lets go with it!"  The flippen SIDE SCROLL doesn\’t even work.
If you need to use LARGE FONT…. you can\’t see the bottom of your CONTACTS LISTS… What the heck
    is up with THAT ???

GOOD GREIF MICROSOFT!!…. ask some uneducated users for the help you obviously need.
Your $80,000 employees sure don\’t have a clue.

I\’ve used HOTMAIL since 1996 just after launch.  I know a thing, or two about it\’s past performance…
    you (Microsoft) obviously don\’t.

  16. DADSGETNDOWN says:

COME ON HOTMAIL.You keep saying people are  saying good things about the new hotmail.READ READ READ these posts.Pull your head out.ANY user who says it\’s better or any good, has NO ideawhat WE NEED, for security and to do our business conveniently andas quickly as possible. BTW people if you use FireFox, it is a little bit better. As far as the left navigation and maybe a little side to side scrolling.

  17. white wolf says:

I have used Hotmail for 3 years and was very happy with the original design but was forced to "update" some time back and then again with this crappy "better" design.  What a joke! It freezes up several times a day, bounces back messages from active accounts, is hard on my eyes, I can\’t see my messages without constantly scrolling down and across, if I get a photo, I would love to see all of it at once but NO WAY! And just because I mark an email as safe doesn\’t mean I wish to add them to my contact list! I also tried to print some info from the page without printing the ENTIRE page and it wouldn\’t work. My folder lists on the left is partially overridden by junk that has been added by Hotmail.

I am also looking for another email carrier. Hotmail has become just that… "Hot" Crap "mail". I definitely would not recommend it to anyone looking for an email carrier.  Like some of you, I have sent emails to the tech support and have not even received an acknowlegement that they received the email. That is not the way to treat customers is they wish to keep them.

  18. Unknown says:

The new hotmail is a pain in the ass. I can\’t print out my emails. I can\’t choose a contact from the side but have to wait 20-30 seconds for the wrong ones to pop up. I can\’t scroll up or down using arrows or keys but have to use the slow scroll bar, which is hidden. When sending a message, it doesn\’t automatically roll over but leaves half of one word on one line and half on another line and when I try to connect them, it makes everything double space. Give us our old Hotmail back. Every time you update it, you make it worse than it was before. Bells and whistles are nice but leave the meat and potatoes alone. The new hotmail is a piece of shit.

  19. unhappy emailer says:

    vasudev,
youre an idiot. you think everyone is blissfully happy with the new crap. Ha. I say again youre and idiot. you dont have the brains of a brick.  I have read the post raving about the new hotmail. about 1 in a thousand. if you really believe the crap you are trying to feed us then you really are an idiot. open your eyes and ears. the majority of the hotmail users want our classic hotmail back. so why dont you pull your head out and give it to us?

  20. Rasana says:

What\’s with the small screen to type replies? When I\’m replying, I can\’t even see what I\’m replying to, the damn window is too small. I hate this forced "upgrade."

  21. Stephen says:

man how much did they pay you to BS us, this new un-inproved hotmail is about to replaced on my pc ,i cannot do anything with it , if i had to pay for this i would demand a full refund , so if you got pull at hotmail/ Microsoft and really want to make US happy FIX IT ASAP

  22. Lok says:

THE 110% NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND CRUDE LANGUAGE SHOULD WAKE
    YOU MS/HOTMAIL PEOPLE!!!

WHAT A SNAFU AND YOU\’VE STILL GOT YOUR HEADS AND ARSES IN THE SAND!!!

AND…STOP SENDING ME ALL YOUR PROPAGANDA (AS ABOVE) TELLING ME ABOUT
BASIC FUNCTIONS THAT ARE NON-EXISTANT OR DON\’T WQRK!!!

SPEND THE TIME RETURNING US TO THE CLASSIC HOTMAIL OR FIX THE COMPLAINTS!!!!!!

  23. Dean says:

Are you kidding me!?!?!?!? The changes to the Hotmail main screen are terrible!!!!! On my settings, the window which displays the index of messages and the main reading window now occupy less than 1/4 of my total screen area. When I open a message I need to see that message not all the ads and other "features" that someone thinks is more important to me than the message I\’m trying to read. Just another example of MS forcing their preferences on the users. Bah HUMBUG!!!!!

  24. Jason says:

Um, Emails are scanned by Windows Live OneCare? I still have Trend Micro…

  25. Unknown says:

I\’ve been quite happy with Hotmail for many years – it did everything I wanted and let me configure it so it was comfortable for me to use.Now most of the configurations I used have been removed, and a one-size-fits-all layout is forced on us, with a bunch of new features which are at best useless to me, and a number which make it harder to use. When I am reading a message, I want to see the message on the screen, not scroll back & forth to see bits of it while much of the screen is occupied with irrelevant stuff. If it weren\’t such a pain to change my address for all of my accounts (which are not on my contact list because I never e-mail them) I would be getting a different service now. I might yet be forced into that.

  26. Vasudev says:

@Jason, At that time it was scanned by Windows Live Onecare, but now here also its scanned by TrendMicro.

  27. Vasudev says:

To all who are facing  problems with the new Hotmail: as I had posted earlier also, Here its again :"Microsoft is working on fixing many of the issues that were faced by users. You can check the Official reply here A note about Hotmail where you can also find some solutions. And also you can check answers to few of  frequently asked questions at Update on the new Hotmail "The new Hotmail works fine with IE and FireFox.  I dont have any problem.

  28. Jared 丘凱明 says:

Hmm… It looks okay, but it\’s amazing that I am now unable to display more than 25 messages per page like I could before.  Definite downgrade.  Now that I\’ve found some sweet Gmail plugins on Mozilla, my email + browser of choice will become Gmail + Firefox, rather than the Hotmail + Internet Explorer as I was using up until last month.

  29. Pat says:

New and improved SUCKS.  I keep telling myself that since I do not pay for it, I should settle for what I can get.  So I  will look elsewhere to get something better–or at least that works for me.
This supposed "user" with allthe good comments—are we really supposed to believe the drivelhe is putting out and that he is not the PR sept of microsoft.  Now that is the real insult.

  30. Unknown says:

As you can see by my email address, I am looking for work. I kept my sents and receives in a special folder so I would know who I had already contacted, those who had responded, follow ups, etc.

This really awful new Hotmail deleted all of my folders. Leaving me in a serious hole! Requests to have them put back have fallen on deaf ears.

I\’ve come to the conclusion that Microsoft does not want customers: 1st they ruin Windows with Vista not they ruin email with this crock of fecal matter.

I have other emails with hotmail and they are all ruined as well.

I do not care if my emails are pretty. I care if the site is functional and fits my needs. Microsoft is no longer interested in doing either.

  31. Cathy says:

I agree with everyone else QUIT FIXING WHAT IS NOT BROKE!!  I have IE and Foxfire and the delayed downloads, no downloading and error messages are still abound.  I try and download an email in a really tiny window, it tells me it is loading then informs me it can\’t do it right now try again later! as if I had the time to screw around and come back later.  And what happened to the check mail button?  I have to keep hiting refresh to make sure I have got all the mail.  Very inconvienent.

    Totally Frustrated!!

  32. Andrew says:

WITH THE SO CALLED NEW EMAIL LOOK,NOW IT DOES NOT SHOW FAVORITES.DOES NOT SHOW
EMAIL ATTACHMENT BAR UPLOAD PROGRESSAND IS FULL OF SPAM EMAIL.YOU SHOULD COPY
YAHOO EMAIL IF YOU WANT TO MAKE IT BETTER.EVERY TIME YOU MAKE IT BETTER IT IS WORST
WHY WASTE YOUR RESOUCES.I THOUGHT CLASSIC EMAIL WAS BETTER.
YOU FIXED SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT BROKEN,INTEAD OF FIXING THE SPAM FILTER.
    WHAT A WASTE.

  33. PATRICK says:

I am just about at the end of my patience with this "new" look.  My e-mail is now full of crap that I never had before.  MSN e- mail was the best ever.  Why O Why does someone have to try to "fix" what isn\’t broken?  Please give me back the old look so I can get on with my life.  If the old doesn\’t come back soon (at least as an option), I will be switching to  another home page with another service very shortly.

  34. Sharon says:

I am so happy to see so many negative comments because this is the worst "new and improved" ever.  Someone, or some many, should be fired over this one.  It is terrible.  I am just happy that it isn\’t just that I am getting old and crabby.  I am now looking around for another e:mail provider.  Any suggestions?

  35. Pat says:

It\’s a good thing I am nearsighted since I have to minimize the font size to microscopic to access all the names in my addressbook.    Have to allow extra time to read and look at mail since I have to keep jockeying back and forth to read each line.    Miniscule reply space – very user-hostile overall; is this your way of "showing us the door?"

  36. Myriam says:

Vasudev – thanks for your very helpful input of 11/20. Since you have been hired by MS – can\’t you be more tactful? You are insulting MS users – and myself a long long time MS user and a former employee. We were never told there to post such lies or treat people with such disdain. Customers are your bread and butter, they pay for your bills. You need us! Especially in this economy. So quite the bs and be a real person.

You posted hotmail works with IE. VASUDEV – I have IE and it DOESN\’T work. Period. Black and White. I have the latest IE. I have a new laptop. IT DOESN\’T WORK. So stop insutling our intelligence with your lies and how great it is for you ….so MS keeps paying you. Listen to the bloggers and communicate this with MS.

No we don\’t want to read an official statement from MS.Put yourself in the bloggers shoes and stop being a PR robot.

I have just re-booted 4 times – did you read that 4 times – 4 times – 4 times in 30 minutes. 4 times in 30 minutes due to freezes reading Hotmail messages. I am a busy person and don\’t have the time to re-boot every 5-8 minutes.

OH and did I tell you I have IE?!!! So now what do you say?

C\’MON Microsoft this is a bad bad product. And Vasudev – leave this blog alone. You are lying and appeasing the true customers. If you have something to say of substance then post. Otherwise go to somethine else. You are not helpful at all, but rather pissing people off. Not a good strategy.

  37. Myriam says:

Hello again – I just read ONE message and it froze again. So 5 freezes in 40 minutes. I read 5 messages. I don\’t have that much time on my hands Microsoft!

I thought of getting Outlook and reading Hotmail through there. Anyone tried that?

Or switching to Yahoo or another one? Which email providers are good?

    Thanks.

    Please don\’t answer Vasudev.

  38. Myriam says:

Ok it just froze again – now what are we up to? Is that 8 or 9 times in 45 minutes? I opened another IE and was able to read a message then it froze again. There is nothing to do except a hard shut down. Really great for a machine.

Argh – anyone have ideas? New email providers they like etc? I just don\’t have the time to do this – email should be easy to get through and quick. In one hour I\’ve read 10 messages of 60 and now I have no more time.

  39. Myriam says:

Hotmail just froze AGAIN! I was scrolling through a message and boom – frozen again. Another re-boot. Another waste of 10 minutes. Actually I\’ve wasted about an hour of time with all the reboots this morning.

  40. Unknown says:

Hey, I love the new hotmail.  Can I have more ads for Geico, Hot singles, weight loss, mortgages and Strayer University.  That\’s why I use hotmail.  It certainly isn\’t because I only have one lie to type my replies.

Good thing these guys only work on a free emial service.  If they did something important people\’s lives might be endangered.  Keep these losers here…I feel som much safer knowing they aren\’t flying the plane I\’ll be on next\\ week.

  41. Unknown says:

OH MY GOD, since your "change" in november, I have been BARRAGGED with spam emails.  What the heck did you do??? I don\’t have time to clear our (just today) 64 UNWANTED SPAM EMAILS!! This never happened before with the old hotmail!!  In your defense, I do like the way the contact information works…..I love how you just start typing the person\’s name and boom there it is, but come on guys, something happened when you changed the look………I have never had spam coming in like I am now!!

    -Amy

  42. Unknown says:

I can not get used to this new Hotmail format.  I hate the large font size, and the whole layout is annoying.  My biggest gripe is that you can not select multiple emails at one time to delete.  You have to laboriously check each one, one at a time, instead of a selecting a large group.  With all the additional spam mail that is coming through, this is ridiculous!  Why did they change this?  It is horrible.

  43. Dri says:

I just loved the new design of Windows Live and I simple don\’t understand why people didn\’t like it. It seems similar to the former design and at the same time has a modern appearance at all and enhanced functionalities!
